"Shadowplay" by Joy Division, Reanimated (2004) by Yoshi Sodeoka RESPONSE

For this week's entry, I found it easier to navigate Rhizome to find a piece of work that i could talk about. I found a really interesting video animation that sought to recreate the album cover of Joy Division's "unknown pleasures"

The video can be found here:

I think it's really interesting to recreate the feeling of an album cover because most of the time, there is no real visual connection between the songs and the art that surrounds it. I can only think of a few albums and music videos that have achieved this, like The Smashing Pumpkin's "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" both in Tonight Tonight and thirty three you can see images that relate to the album cover.
Sodeoka's attempt to recreate the feeling of the cover in the album is extremely successful. I specially like how the movement of the performers is depicted and while it's difficult to observe clearly, it does create the illusion of a shadows moving. I think the way they filmed this video was with a regular camera using natural light, that then was run trough software  that would read the movements and make the most prominent features rise and drop in the form of curves.
